Malted Shortbread

My son lives near Valerie's in Echo Park and brought me a bag of her cookies. I have worked all my life in restaurants and love to cook and bake. These were excellent shortbread cookies! The malted flavor was a fun twist. The buttery cookie had a good crumble when you bit into it and the touch of salt was perfect. I've been messing around with some flavors for shortbread cookies and was inspired by the addition of malted powder. Well done Valerie's Bakery!

I usually just LOVE the items I buy from Valeries Confections, but these did not have much flavor at all. For the price, I was very disappointed.

The malt flavor is subtle but adds a special something that makes you wonder why this shortbread seems to stand out. Fabulous with tea. Holds together slightly better than some more traditional shortbread.
